Upakara Tree Planting Movement in Gumi Banten Park, Jimbaran Hill

The Faculty of Agriculture on Friday 3 February 2023 together with the Bem of the Faculty of Agriculture planted trees in the Banten Gumi Park area as a form of collaboration between UNUD and the Badung Regional Government. This event was attended by Wd 3 Dr. Ir. I Wayan Diara, MS. together with Bem FP and staff at the South Kuta subdistrict head.

Today's tree planting is a continuation of last week's event, Friday 27 January 2023, where at that time 200 trees of various types of ceremonial plants, such as coconut, cempaka, betel and other plants, were handed over to the Gumi Park, Banten. PT Duta Jaya Perkasa handed over the tree to the South Kuta sub-district head and the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and was accepted by Wd 1 Dr. Ir Ni Luh Kartini, MS. at the Faculty of Agriculture, Campus Bukit Jimbaran. The initial plan was to plant the trees directly on the location but due to rain and because it was raining very hard at that time the planting was postponed a week later.

Banten Gumi Park is one of the efforts to increase green open space in the southern Badung region, the Badung Regency Government in collaboration with UNUD signed a cooperation agreement regarding the use of UNUD's land on the Bukit Jimbarana campus, South Kuta District. In the cooperation agreement, the 14 hectare land will be made into a biodiversity park and named Gumi Banten Park. Interestingly, the area will later be planted with various types of plants that can be used for religious ceremonies (ceremonial plants).

The purpose of establishing the Banten Gumi Plant and usada is also to take advantage of the preservation of various very useful local Balinese plants around us. The role of the community and traditional villages in developing the Gumi Banten Park and usada is very much needed so that the number and types of plants can continue to be multiplied.
