Udayana University National University Debating Competition (NUDC) Internal Selection in 2023
On Saturday, March 25 2023, 3 teams of Faculty of Agriculture representatives took part in the National University Debating Competition (NUDC) Internal Selection at the Udayana University Level which took place in the Hall Room of the Postgraduate Building, Floor III, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar. The Faculty of Agriculture sent 3 teams where 1 team consisted of 2 people. The first team was called the white team, followed by Fransisca Aprilia Wijayanti, agroecotechnology study program'20 and I Gusti Ngurah Prabhaswara, agroecotechnology study program'21. The second team with the name team black was joined by I Nyoman Wirya Sukmana, agribusiness study program'20 and Ni Kadek Anggi Maharini, agroecotechnology study program'21. The third team with the name team navy was joined by Fadia Walid Al-Ozeir, agroecotechnology study program'19 and Agnes Priscadevi Hariyanto, agroecotechnology study program'20. The teams were accompanied by N1 Adjudicators who came from lecturers including Mrs. Prof.Ir. I Gusti Agung Ayu Ambarawati,MEc.,PhD, Dr. Ir., I Gede Ketut Susrama M.Sc, and Mrs. Prof. Dr. Ir. I Gusti Ayu Oka Suryawardani,.M.Mgt.
The activity was carried out for 2 days, namely the first day March 25 2023 which was the preliminary round to become the 8 best teams who would enter the semifinals and the second day March 26 2023 the finals were held. On the first day (preliminary round) all teams will play 3 rounds with different motions and roles (government OR opposition) in each round. The motions and roles of each round will change and be randomized by the committee.
To start each round, it will begin with an explanation of roles and motions, after which the whole team will enter each room that has been prepared and do case building for 15 minutes with partners. Case building is a discussion and analysis related to the motions given. When 15 minutes have passed, the team can enter the room to then carry out the debate with each person who gets 7 minutes to deliver their speech, with in the middle 5 minutes each team in the room can prepare a POI (Point of Information) or interruption ( interrupt). The time for each round is 2 hours including preparation, case building, debate, as well as input and suggestions for each team after the debate is over. From each round, the jury has the right to assess the scores of each team and each debater, as well as determine the order of 1-4 winners from all teams competing in 1 room. This assessment will affect the results of the top 8 teams that will advance to the semifinals.
In the preliminary stage, the Faculty of Agriculture succeeded in sending 2 teams to advance to the next round, namely the black team and the navy team. However, the black team decided to withdraw so on the 2nd day FP only sent 1 team to compete, namely the navy team. Of the 8 teams that made it to the semifinals, 4 teams will be selected to then enter the final stage, namely the finals. The final was occupied by 2 teams from FISIP, 1 team from FP, and 1 team from FIB. The debate was very interesting from all sides until it ended that the Faculty of Agriculture won 2nd place (First UP Runner) with the names of team members namely Fadia Walid Al-Ozeir, agroecotechnology study program'19 and Agnes Priscadevi Hariyanto, agroecotechnology study program'20 and on behalf of Fadia Walid Al-Ozier won a medal as one of the BEST Speakers.
After this internal selection activity is completed, UDS (Udayana Debating Society) as the organizer of the competition will provide Intensive Training to the winners, BEST SPEAKER and several other selected participants. This training was conducted to determine several names who could become representatives of Udayana University to take part in regional-national-international selection.
