Kopi Kenangan and Udayana University Promote Sustainable Agriculture in Lembean Village, Kintamani
Bangli, October 24, 2026 — Kopi Kenangan, in collaboration with Udayana University (UNUD), held a Sustainable Agriculture Field School (SLPB) in Lembean Village, Kintamani District, Bangli Regency, on Saturday, October 24. The program brought together representatives of participating farmers to strengthen their knowledge and skills in adopting safer and more environmentally friendly farming practices.
The initiative addresses concerns about the excessive use of synthetic chemical pesticides in citrus and coffee cultivation in Kintamani. Through learning sessions with experts and practitioners, farmers explored the impacts on health, the environment, and food safety, while identifying practical steps to reduce these risks.
Understanding Soil Conditions and Pest Management
Putu Oki Bimantara, S.P., M.Agr., presented laboratory soil test results as baseline data for understanding chemical residues and soil fertility on agricultural land. These findings provide a foundation for planning land management practices and evaluating changes in soil conditions over time.
Addressing health concerns, Made Pasek Kardiwinata, S.KM., M.Kes., discussed the hazards of pesticide exposure, including the risks of respiratory problems and skin irritation. The session emphasized the importance of protecting farmers and their families through safe pesticide handling and application.
Meanwhile, Dr. I Kadek Wisma Yudha, S.P., M.P., shared information on pesticide lists based on Rainforest Alliance (RA) recommendations, alongside practical Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies. The session equipped farmers with knowledge to manage pests more responsibly and reduce their reliance on synthetic chemical pesticides.
Equipping Farmers with Practical Skills
In addition to the learning sessions, the program provided practical guidance on producing fertilizer from animal manure, introduced standard operating procedures (SOPs) for safe pesticide application, and emphasized the mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
The program also includes the establishment of demonstration plots as learning sites to compare the efficiency of conventional cultivation methods with sustainable farming practices. These plots are intended to help farmers observe and assess the application of different cultivation methods directly in the field.
Through this collaboration, Kopi Kenangan and Udayana University aim to strengthen farmers’ knowledge, encourage safer cultivation practices, and provide baseline soil data to support long-term land management. Farmer participation plays an essential role in advancing sustainable agriculture in Lembean Village, Kintamani.
