History of the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University

The Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University has a long historical journey, beginning with its establishment initiative in 1965 and developing into one of the faculties that plays an important role in education, research, and community service in the field of agriculture.

Brief History

The initiative to establish the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University began in 1965 at the initiative of the Rector of Udayana University, Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra, who contacted Dr. Ir. I Gusti Bagus Teken and Ir. Putu Djapa Winaya, M.Sc., both of whom were lecturers at Bogor Agricultural Institute at that time.

The founding committee of the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University consisted of Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra as Patron/Advisor, Ir. Putu Djapa Winaya, M.Sc. as Chairperson, Ngakan Made Djati Mantjika, M.Agr.Sc. as Secretary, and several other members, namely Made Nitis, M.Rur.Sc., Ir. Gede Sukatja, and Ir. R. Soewardi Soepardi.

Based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 102 dated September 1, 1967, the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University was officially declared established. In its early period, the faculty was only permitted to graduate Sarjana Muda with the B.Sc. degree.

Along with the development of higher agricultural education, the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University was later permitted to graduate Sarjana Pertanian in 1976 and subsequently opened several departments, study programs, concentrations, and postgraduate programs to support the sustainable development of agricultural sciences.

Study Programs

Agroecotechnology, Agribusiness, Landscape Architecture, as well as master’s and doctoral programs.

Restructuring

Study program restructuring was carried out to align with higher education policies.

Location

The faculty administration moved to the Bukit Jimbaran Campus on September 1, 1993.

Faculty Development Milestones

1965

The initiative to establish the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University began.

1967

The Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University was officially established based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 102.

1976

The Faculty of Agriculture was permitted to graduate Sarjana Pertanian with departments in Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Socio-Economics.

1984

The Faculty of Agriculture was permitted to open five main departments in the field of agriculture.

2008

The Agroecotechnology and Agribusiness Study Programs began admitting new students as part of the study program restructuring.

2020

The Landscape Gardening Study Program changed its name to the Landscape Architecture Study Program.
