Inauguration of Two Professors for the 55th Anniversary of Unud FP

The 55th birthday of the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) of Udayana University (Unud) and the 44th Family Board of the Faculty of Agriculture received the most beautiful gifts. This year's celebration was accompanied by the inauguration of two professors at FP Unud, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Ketut Ayu Yuliadhi, M.P and Prof. Dr. Ir. I Ketut Suamba, M.P.

FP contributed to adding two of the nine professors who had just been inaugurated by the Unud Chancellor on Saturday (3/9) at the Widya Sabha Auditorium, Unud Jimbaran Campus.

Prof. Ayu brought a scientific oration on the potential of Sycanus Aurantiacus as a Biological Control Agent for the Main Pest of Cabbage. Meanwhile, Prof. Suamba brought a scientific oration on Developing Economic Activities in the Socio-Cultural-Based Subak System.

The woman who was born on July 6, 1960 has devoted herself as a lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture, Unud since 1986. Previously, Prof. Ayu took her bachelor's degree at FP Unud, master's degree at Padjadjaran University, and doctoral degree at FP Unud.

For Prof. Ayu, teaching is part of sharing. Both share knowledge and share experiences. His commitment as a professor hopes to be able to devote knowledge and research results to the alma mater, the wider community, and students. "Always be creative to conduct research in order to solve problems faced by farmers, especially in the field of Plant Pest Science," he explained.

Not only that, the alumnus of SMAN 1 Denpasar will apply the research results directly to farmer groups. The hope is to save plants from plant-disturbing organisms. “This rescue effort is biologically controlled. It is done safely, healthily, cheaply, and easily without damaging the ecosystem,” he added.

Good hope was also expressed by Prof. Suamba in developing the economy in the Subak system. The Head of the Subak Unit at Udayana University also contributed to developing the Subak system as a distinctive socio-cultural character in Bali. Until 2012 the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in the city of Saint Petersburg, the Russian Federation has designated the Subak system as a world cultural heritage.

According to Prof. Suamba, the uniqueness of Trihita Karana, has become one of the world's cultural promotions. No wonder various universities in the United States and Europe are also studying the Subak system.

Not to forget countries in Asia and universities in Indonesia are also studying the science of this world's cultural heritage. "We are keeping the character of the Subak system. Starting from socio-agricultural, agricultural technology, to a series of cultural and religious activities that must be carried out, "then developed into socio-economics-agrarian-religious", he said. Previously, Prof. Suamba took S1 at FP Unud, S2 at Padjadjaran University, and S3 at Brawijaya University. (*)
