Collaboration between the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, and Kopi Kenangan: Realizing Internationally Certified Coffee
Bangli - At the Arabica Coffee Small and Medium Enterprises Center Building in Catur Village, Kintamani District, Bangli Regency, the Faculty of Agriculture held a Community Service Program for coffee farmers in Catur Village with the theme "Pesticide Substitution for Lawn Mowers." This program is a collaborative effort between the Faculty of Agriculture, PT Bumi Berkah Boga Kopi Kenangan, and Karana Global, the supplier of Arabica coffee products to PT Bumi Berkah Boga Kopi Kenangan (30/09/2025).
The Community Service Program was attended and opened by the Second Assistant to the Regional Secretary of Bangli Regency, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, and the coffee farmers in Catur Village who participated in the community service program. Dr. I Made Sarjana, the committee chairman, expressed his gratitude for the community service program, which has facilitated the bridging of Arabica coffee stakeholders, including academics, entrepreneurs, government officials, farmers, and the media. This activity is a concrete manifestation of Kopi Kenangan's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University. This activity aims to maintain the sustainability of Kintamani Arabica coffee through environmentally friendly farming management and farmer regeneration (both cultivation and business). It also aims to motivate farmers to reduce the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers in coffee plantations, both when dealing with pests and diseases and controlling weeds.
PT Bumi Berkah Boga Kopi Kenangan, represented by Marya Tisnandya, ESG Senior Specialist at Kopi Kenangan, stated that the export potential for Arabica coffee remains wide open, provided it obtains international certification, such as rainforestry. Therefore, the sustainability of Arabica coffee must be addressed from upstream to downstream to achieve this goal. Kopi Kenangan, which currently has a presence in six countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, and Taipei, with approximately 1,300 outlets, is ready to help achieve this goal. To produce Kopi Kenangan, they have acquired 10%-15% of Kintamani's Arabica coffee. The next step is to design a three-month business incubator program for young farmers in the Kintamani region.
In his remarks, I Putu Sudiarta, S.P., M.Sc., P.hD., Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, stated that this collaborative Community Service initiative is one of the efforts to achieve internationally certified coffee, in line with the aspirations of Kopi Kenangan, a consumer of Kintamani Arabica coffee. This desire can be realized with the contribution and support of relevant parties, including farmers, the agricultural office, the local government, and academics. I Ketut Riang, Assistant to the Second Regional Secretary of Bangli Regency, welcomed and supported the Community Service initiative. He emphasized that the agricultural sector, which contributes significantly to Bangli Regency, should continue to improve and sustainably grow, as it has proven to be resilient and grow during global economic downturns. Riang also hopes that the use of lawn mowers instead of pesticides will increase farmers' incomes and, in the future, boost exports. In this event, PT Bumi Berkah Boga Kopi Kenangan provided 20 lawn mowers to farmers in the Kintamani area and were symbolically handed over by the Second Assistant to the Regional Secretary of Bangli Regency, the Dean of FP Unud and Kopi Kenangan to the representatives of the farmers present.
