Guest Lecture Presents Professor Yoichiro Kato (University of Tokyo): New Innovation “Salibu” Efforts to Increase Rice Production
The Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University held a Guest Lecture event with the theme Recent Advance on Rice Production on Friday, November 8, 2024. This event was held in the Senate Meeting Room, Agrokompleks Building, 2nd Floor, Jl. PB Sudirman, Denpasar, presenting Associate Professor Yoichiro Kato from the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, University of Tokyo as a resource person.
This activity is an implementation of the collaboration between the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University and the University of Tokyo and part of an effort to support government programs, especially President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita regarding food self-sufficiency. In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, I Putu Sudiarta, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of the relationship between higher education programs and government policies. He highlighted FP UNUD's commitment to increasing capacity and innovation in the agricultural sector in order to achieve national food security.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dewa Ngurah Suprapta, M.Sc., as the Collaboration PIC, said that collaboration with international institutions such as the University of Tokyo was carried out through the signing of an MoU. This collaboration aims to develop sustainable rice production and strives to provide real solutions for the welfare of the community, especially farmers. This collaboration is expected to not only increase agricultural productivity, but also raise the reputation of the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University in the international arena.
In the presentation session, Associate Professor Yoichiro Kato explained various innovations and the latest developments in sustainable rice production. Moderated by Putu Oki Bimantara, S.P., M.Agr., this session succeeded in attracting the enthusiasm of participants consisting of academics, students, and agricultural practitioners, who also had the opportunity to discuss in a question and answer session.
The event was closed with a certificate presentation session to the speakers and joint documentation at 12.50 WITA. It is hoped that this Guest Lecture can provide inspiration and new insights for participants in increasing sustainable rice production in Indonesia.
